Follow the Fraser is a mountain bike documentary that follows Kyle Norbraten, James Doerfling and Tom van Steenbergen as they journey north along BC’s Fraser River, riding classic freeride lines and discovering new zones to ride. Their eventual destination, the Sibola Range, beckons with red slopes and the promise of steep big mountain riding, and the crew is eager to discover what stones have been left unturned within their home province.
I produced, directed, shot and edited this documentary alongside my colleagues at Absolute Cinema (Liam Mullany & Andre Nutini). We spent 30 days traveling through BC, living in tents and trucks, charging batteries by generator and solar power, dumping footage on laptops in bug shelters, and having an amazing time doing it. Given the small crew, the three of us handled everything from pre-production to making sandwiches for the crew, planning routes, digging jumps, setting up gear, carrying cameras, and capturing images. Top to bottom, it was the most intense 30 day shoot we’ve ever been on. Given that we were unable to predict the weather and conditions, we had to be prepared for any situation. With help from collaborators like MEC, Red Bull Media House, Anton Bauer, O’Connor, and LEDLenser, we did our best to weather the storms and capture the candid nature of this trip.
